Tamdaght kasbah and a stork nest
Rose du Sable is a ideal place to explore the area around Ait Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate, which is full of beautiful and different landscapes, a transition between High Atlas mountains and the fertile valleys of the Dades (eastwards) and the Draa (southwards), the last large green valleys before the desert starts. For a trip of a few hours, a day or more, you can explore these destinations, or ask our hotel to organize a tour.
The ksar (or casbah) of Ait Ben Haddou and the casbah of Tamdakht are both very near the hotel, you can see them from the terraces. These two casbahs are different one from the other, built at different times. Both of them can be visited, and make a half a day trip. You can ask the hotel for a picnic.
The big cinema studios (Atlas and Ecla) are on the main road between Ait Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate. When there is no shooting, you can visit them and walk among the decors which were used for films like Kundun, for example. The entrance of the studio costs 50 dirham per person (around 5 euro).
It can be reached by a pist or a normal road but with a large detour. This casbah is a real eagle nest that reveals itself after a big hour off road (the pist starts after Tamdakht). The stronghold of the Glawis is really impressive on its high plateau, and the building still shows a few remnants of its former splendor. A real must!
